01The constraint

What actually makes this format hard.

An open-air layout removes the natural funnels an enclosed centre provides. Visitors disperse quickly, and provision concentrated at the car park stops being useful within a few minutes of arrival.

Seasonality is the second constraint: capacity that suits a peak weekend is oversupply on a wet weekday, and equipment left standing outdoors is both a presentation and a maintenance issue.

The illustrative approach plans a base fleet for typical trading and a defined uplift for peak periods, rather than a single year-round number.

This keeps the estate proportionate on quiet days, which matters more in an open-air environment where every unit is visible.

Placement follows the street: arrival, mid-loop, and the points where visitors stop for food or leisure.

Outdoor placement is assessed for surface, drainage, power routing and exposure during site assessment, because those facts determine what is actually buildable.

Availability expectations shift with conditions. Operations plan around the forecast rather than treating a wet-day drop in sessions as a fault.

Seasonal capacity

Peak uplift is a scheduled operation with an agreed lead time, not an emergency response to a busy weekend.

Outdoor maintenance

Cleaning and inspection cycles are set higher than for an enclosed centre, and agreed as part of the service scope.
